Comments: Hi I have 3 Chinnies a mother and 2 daughters. Misty the eldest has just reached the age of 16. Our vet tells me this is fairley old for a chin and looking at the info available it looks like she is right. Does anyone know what age they usually live to. She is doing ok although has had a fall and knocked a tooth out. The vet is happy with her progress. As I am typing this Misty is running around the room looking for something naughty to do. Love from Jane, Misty, Poppy and Rosie

Comments: Hi Everybody, I have a pet chinchilla named Pepe. I love him a lot, but I haven't been paying enough attention to him. I really do not want to give him away, but also I don't want him to feel neglected. I need to start paying more attention to him again. Please e mail me and tell me what to do. I love him so much and I want to keep him for as long as I can. Thank you so much.

Admin reply: Chinchillas can get colds/respiratory infections - they sometimes wheeze and there might be mucous from the nose. Feel his ears and see if they are hot/warm - this can be an indication of a temperature if he is unwell. Not to be mistaken for warm ears when they are just running about playing. If the ears are warm/red from playing - they cool down once they settle.
They also can get allergies with things that make them sneeze. Have you changed anything recently ?
These are just suggestions. My advice would be to have your vet check him over.
